In the twilight of their lives, when retirement kicked in, the survivors traveled with us to schools for presentations and participated in our teacher education workshops. It was a big relief for them to talk about the past. It released the pressure required not to remember. They appreciated the interest and warmth of the students and teachers. Talking about the past was a way of dealing with it. But there was no such thing as “closure.” The ten survivors share their thoughts:
